The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts.
Hilary Wilson
Solon graduate and current Des Moines Area Community College freshman Hilary Wilson was named to the Region 11 First team last week after helping the Bears to a 46-9 record and the Region 11 championship.
Wilson is hitting a team-high .512 for the Bears and leads DMACC with 52 RBI, a .535 on-base percentage and a .922 slugging percentage.
The freshman infielder also ranks second on the team in hits (66), runs (39), doubles (16) and home runs (11).
Danny Gavin
Regina graduate and current Gustavus Adolphus freshman Danny Gavin completed a strong debut season in which he helped the Gusties to a 23-16 record while ranking in the top three on the team in batting average, extra-base hits and RBI.
Gavin batted .378 in his first collegiate season posting a 1.011 OPS and .465 on-base percentage. The freshman outfield had 10 doubles and five triples among 45 hits, scored 25 runs and drove in 33 runs while drawing 21 walks.
Trent Hoogerwerf
Regina graduate and current Mount Mercy senior Trent Hoogerwerf earned a trio of awards from the Heart of America Conference over the past several weeks.
A senior catcher for the Mustangs, Hoogerwerf was named a second-team all-conference selection and a gold glove honoree at catcher when the conference released its postseason awards.
Hoogerwerf hit .359 with 16 extra-base hits including four home runs and drove in 41 runs while waking 21 times.
Last week Hoogerwerf was named to the Heart of America all-tournament team after going 8-for-20 at the plate with10 RBI and four walks in five games as the Mustangs secured a spot in the NAIA national tournament by winning the conference tournament title.
