One of the most decorated players in Liberty High history has found a home for his hoops future.
Liberty High senior Trey Hughes announced his commitment to Buena Vista earlier this week with a post on social media.
“I’m excited to announce my commitment to Buena Vista,” Hughes wrote on X. “Thank you to my coaches, teammates and my family for supporting me through this journey.”
A three-year varsity contributor, Hughes started the final 44 games of his career and helped Liberty High reach new heights.
Hughes had his best season as a senior averaging career highs in points, rebounds and assists while helping the Lightning set a single season record for wins while reaching the 4A substate semifinals.
The 6-foot-3 Hughes led Liberty High in scoring with 11.7 points per game to go with 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game on his way to earning Mississippi Valley Conference all-Mississippi Division first team honors.
Hughes shot 36 percent from 3-point range, led the Lightning with 53 made 3-pointers and shot a career-high 81 percent from the free throw line as a senior.
He scored in double figures in 14 of 23 games including 13 of the final 17 games as Liberty High won six of its last eight games to finish the season 11-12.
