Your Prep Sports Area Alumni Report: West High Graduates Roghair and Garvin Earn All-American Honors at Stanford

Aurora Roghair
Former West High state champion and current Stanford junior Aurora capped an incredible season by earning All-American honors in four events this week at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, Georgia.
The impressive performance by Roghair at the four-day event was highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 1650 freestyle in a career-best time of 15:41.11.
The two-time defending PAC 12 champion in the 1650 freestyle, Roghair took five seconds off her previous personal best time while finishing runner-up to national champion Abby McCulloh of Georgia.
The time of 15:41.11 for Roghair ranks in the top 20 all-time in America and ranks third all-time at Stanford behind only Katie Ledecky and Janet Evans.
Roghair added All-American finishes in the 500 and 200 freestyle and was a member of the Cardinal 800 freestyle relay team that finished third.
She was fourth in the 500 freestyle in a personal best time of 4:34.26, which ranks fourth all-time at Stanford and was 12th in 200 freestyle in a career-best time of 1:43.21.
Hunter Garvin
Former West High state champion and current Stanford freshman Hunter Garvin capped a stellar debut season by earning All-American honors at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.
Garvin went 5-3 at the three-day tournament finishing sixth at 165 pounds to become the third freshman all-American in Stanford history.
The No. 20 seed in the 165-pound bracket, Garvin posted wins over the No. 30, 13, 11, 10 and nine seeds in the bracket with his losses coming to 165-pound champion David Carr of Iowa State, top-ranked Keegan O’Toole of Missouri and to Izzak Olejnik of Oklahoma State in the fifth-place match.
Garvin finished his freshman season 25-12.
Ethan O’Donnell
Liberty High graduate and current Coe College junior Ethan O’Donnell posted one of the best starts of his collegiate career on Saturday tossing a complete-game five-hitter in a 7-0 win over Wartburg in Waverly.
O’Donnell struck out eight and walked two in the nine-inning complete game while improving his season record to 3-0.
On the season the right-handed throwing O’Donnell is 3-0 with a 2.35 ERA with 22 strikeouts and five walks in a team-high 30.2 innings.
