Ella Cook
Former City High standout and current St. Thomas University junior Ella Cook hit a three-run home run in a 7-3 loss to No. 11 Alabama on Friday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The home run against the Crimson Tide was part of a strong weekend for Cook who had a hit in four of five games at the Easton Bama Bash that included Southern Indiana, Alabama and Virginia.
Cook tossed a complete game five-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Southern Indiana on Friday striking out six and walking four.
On the season Cook leads St. Thomas in batting average (.269) and RBI (7) and has a pair of doubles.
Marcus Morgan
West High graduate and current Iowa junior Marcus Morgan threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win in a 5-0 victory over Ball State on Saturday.
Morgan struck out nine and walked two while allowing just two hits in his first start of the season.
No. 20 ranked Iowa went 2-1 on the opening weekend of the season with wins over Ball State and Seton Hall and a loss to Lehigh.
Brylee Klosterman
Liberty High graduate and current Iowa senior outfielder Brylee Klosterman went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a 4-2 win over Liberty on Friday at the Spring Games in Leesburg, Florida.
On the season Klosterman is hitting .333 with a double, four RBI, three runs scored and two walks while helping the Hawkeyes to a 4-3 start.
