Vinny Lima secured a spot at the state tournament for the second year in a row on Saturday.

This time Lima is headed to Des Moines as a district champion.

After finishing third at the Class 3A district meet last season Lima was impressive on his way to the 215-pound title at the Class 3A, District 8 meet at Cedar Rapids Prairie on Saturday.

Third-ranked Lima (29-2) won a 13-4 major decision over eighth-ranked Mitchell Grider of Ankeny Centennial in the championship match to secure his spot at the Class 3A state meet that opens Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Lima was one of three Liberty High wrestlers to earn spots at state on Saturday as sophomore Landon Bell and senior Gavin Benton each earned trips to the state meet.

Benton (28-8) finished runner-up at 175 pounds falling to seventh-ranked Kyler Scranton of West High in the title match.

Bell (29-8) finished third at 157 pounds to earn a second consecutive trip to the state meet.

Liberty High finished sixth in the team standing with 78 points.

Ankeny Centennial won the team title with 210 points while West High was runner-up with 148 points.
