City High crowned three champions and qualified eight wrestlers for the state meet in a strong showing at the Class 3A, District 2 meet on Saturday at Bettendorf High School.

Kendall Kurtz, Kael Kurtz and Kael Voinovich won individual titles as City High finished third in the team standings with 166.5 points.

Second-ranked Bettendorf won the team title with 246 points while Clear Creek Amana was runner-up with 179.5.

Cale Seaton, Edgar Mhoon-Lopez and Jake Mitchell all secured spots at the 3A state meet that opens Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines with runner-up finishes and Chris Davis and Mason Tilley placed third to earn state meet spots.

Kendall Kurtz (28-10) won the 113-pound title with a 16-1 tech fall of Clear Creek Amana sophomore Jose Mendieta in the title match.

Third-ranked Kael Kurtz (24-3) won a 3-2 decision over fourth-ranked Cody Trevino of Bettendorf in the 138-pound title match.

Top-ranked Kael Voinovich (37-1) needed just 1:22 to pin eighth-ranked Nolan Riddle of Fort Madison in the 157-pound championship.

Top-ranked Seaton (30-1) finished runner-up at 132-pounds dropping an 8-6 decision to third-ranked Jayce Luna of Bettendorf.

Mhoon-Lopez (11-14) finished runner-up at 126 pounds falling to second-ranked Timothy Koester of Bettendorf in the championship match and Jake Mitchell (26-11) was runner-up at 144 pounds dropping a 7-2 decision to Bettendorf junior Duncan Harn.

Davis (23-15) was third at 120 pounds and Tilley (20-19) was third at 175.
