Aubrey Joens
Former City High standout and current Oklahoma senior guard Aubrey Joens had 10 points, three assists and two steals as the Sooners upset second-ranked Kansas State 66-63 on Wednesday in Norman, Oklahoma.
Joens had three points and three rebounds in an 81-74 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
On the season Joens is averaging 8.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while helping the Sooners to a 15-6 record including a 9-1 mark in Big 12 play.
Zeb Gnida
Former Solon standout and current Loras College senior 174-pounder Zeb Gnida helped the No. 16 ranked DuHawks to a 22-20 win over rival and No. 18 ranked University of Dubuque in an American Rivers Conference dual meet on Friday in Dubuque.
Ninth-ranked Gnida posted a 11-3 major decision over Pilo Perez of Dubuque in the dual win as Loras improved to 10-6 on the season in duals and 6-1 in ARC action.
Gnida is 13-1 this season with six technical falls and three major decisions and has won five matches in a row following his only loss of the season to top-ranked Zane Mulder of Wartburg.
Nick O’Connor
Clear Creek Amana graduate and current Iowa senior Nick O’Connor continued his strong start to the season by posting another personal best time at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.
O’Connor finished runner-up to teammate Ryan Schriener in the 600 meter in a career-best time of 1:18.13.
