Cooper Gates won an individual title to highlight 10 top-four finishes for West Branch as the Bears finished third as a team at the 18-team Gary Curtis Invitational on Saturday at Highland High School in Riverside.

Gates won the 165-pound title to help West Branch rack up 183 team points.

Alburnett won the team title with 272.5 points while Wilton was runner-up with 232 pounds.

Regina had five wrestlers finish in the top six and finished eighth with 84.5 points.

Gates (20-1) went 4-0 with two pins on his way to the 165-pound title, winning 9-4 decision over Michael Raines of New London in the title match.

Ethan Humphrey finished third at 106, Lincoln Edwards was third at 120, Quintyn Rocha was third at 215 and Logan Wright finished third at 285 for the Bears.

Logan Christoffel (132), Maddux Rushton (138), Auron Marsh (144), Shae Farmer (175)   and Tate Frantz (190) all finished fourth for West Branch.

Cash Hatfield and Leren Fernandez led Regina with third-place finishes.

Hatfield was third at 138 and Fernandez was third at 175.

Edwin Gangba finished fifth at 144, Ian Udell was fifth at 190 and AJ White placed sixth at 120 for the Regals.
