West High opened the season with a win on Thursday defeating Cedar Rapids Kennedy 43-36 in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual in Cedar Rapids.

West High won eight matches on Thursday, earning bonus points in all eight while posting six pins.

Charles Barnhouse (106), Alexander Pierce (113), Matthew Tran (120), Michael Colleran (132), Braden Doyle (144) and Kyler Scranton (175) all won by fall for the Trojans.

Justin Avila won a 15-2 major decision at 150 pounds and Campbell Janis added a 11-2 major decision at 132.
