With a pair of wins over top-three ranked teams and a victory over a 5A team during an undefeated start to the season Solon has amassed an early resume worthy of a top-ranked team.

On Thursday the Spartans earned that top spot.

Solon (3-0) moved up a spot to number one in the second Class 3A girls basketball rankings of the season released on Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Spartans have wins over 1A third-ranked Martensdale-St. Marys and 2A top-ranked Dike-New Hartford during its 3-0 start.

Solon takes over the top spot from Estherville-Lincoln Central and is followed in the 3A top five by Benton Community, Des Moines Christian, Dubuque Wahlert and Mount Vernon.

Clear Creek Amana and Regina each held their spots in their respective classes.

Clear Creek Amana (2-0) remained second in Class 4A while Regina (1-0) is fourth in Class 2A.

Other top-ranked teams in the first rankings of the season are Johnston in Class 5A, Dallas Center-Grimes in Class 4A, Dike-New Hartford in Class 2A and North Linn in Class 1A.
