Clear Creek Amana, Solon and Regina in Top Five in First IGHSAU Basketball Rankings

Clear Creek Amana, Solon and Regina all advanced to the state tournament last season.
All three enter the 2023-2024 favorites to return to the state tournament bases on the preseason rankings.
Clear Creek Amana, Solon and Regina were all ranked in the top five in their respective classes in the first girls basketball rankings of the season released on Friday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
A state semifinalist last season Solon was ranked second in the first Class 3A rankings behind only top-ranked Estherville-Lincoln Central.
Solon went 23-3 last season falling to eventual 3A champion Sioux Center in the state semifinals.
Clear Creek Amana will also open the season ranked second trailing only top-ranked and defending state champion Dallas Center-Grimes in the 4A rankings.
The Clippers went 18-5 last season and fell to North Polk in the 4A stater quarterfinals.
Regina will be seeking a third consecutive state tournament appearance this fall and will start the season ranked fourth in Class 2A
The Regals are coming off a 21-5 season that ended with a loss in the 2A quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.
Defending state champion Dike New-Hartford is ranked number one in 2A followed by Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Panorama.
Other top-ranked teams in the first rankings of the season are Johnston in Class 5A and North Linn in Class 1A.
