One of the key contributors on back-to-back Solon state championship teams has announced plans for her collegiate track career.
Solon senior middle distance standout Gracie Federspiel announced her commitment to Iowa State on Tuesday on the social media platform X.
“I am super excited and thankful to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Iowa State,” Federspiel wrote on X. “I want to thank my family, friends and coaches for believing in me and helping me get to where I am today.”
Federspiel has earned four medals at the state meet each of the past two seasons while helping Solon claim consecutive Class 3A team titles.
Over the past two seasons Federspiel has finished in the top four in all eight events she has competed in at the state meet, winning three relay titles and posting three individual top-four finishes.
As a sophomore in 2022 Federpsiel ran on Solon’s winning 4×800 and 4×400 relay teams and finished fourth in the 400 in a time of 58.08.
Last season Federspiel won the first individual title of her career claiming the 3A 800 in a time of 2:12.97.
Federspiel anchored the Spartan distance medley relay team to a state title, helped the Spartan 4×800 team finish runner-up and was third in the 400 in 57.28.
Also a four-time state qualifier in cross country Federspiel helped Solon to an eighth-place finish at the 3A state cross country meet last month.
