MARSHALLTOWN – Grace Hoeper burst onto the state swimming scene last fast winning the 50 freestyle at the state meet to cap a stellar sophomore season.

On Saturday Hoeper added to her state title count.

Hoeper won state titles in the 50 and 100 freestyle to help City High place 14^th as a team on Saturday afternoon at the state swimming meet at the Marshalltown YMCA.

A junior at Solon that competes for City High, Hoeper won her second consecutive state title in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.44.

Waukee junior Payden Rafferty was runner-up for the second year in a row in a time of 24.08.

Hoeper added a title in the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.27 finishing more than half a second in front of runner-up Nora Kemp of Waukee.

The two titles for Hoeper were part of a solid day for City High as the Little Hawks finished 14^th with 66 points.

The City High 200 freestyle relay team of Elsa Farber, Hoeper, Madelyn Elkins and Margalit Frank finished eighth in a time of 1:39.96.

West High got a pair of top-eight finishes from freshman Hannah Geng on its was to a sixth-place team finish.

Geng was fourth in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 100 butterfly as the Trojans finished with 146 points.

Waukee won the team title with 381 points followed by West Des Moines Dowling with 241.5 and Davenport Central with 190.

Geng finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.99 and added a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 58.31 to lead West High.

Senior Kolby Reese placed fourth in the 500 freestyle in 5:07.27 and junior Averie Bilskemper placed eighth in the 100 freestyle in 53.6.

Junior Kamilia Swanson placed third in the 1-meter diving competition on Friday with a score of 434.8.

Marshalltown senior Abby Tollefson won the diving title with a score of 504.55.
