Regina Races Past Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in Playoff Opener

Regina didn’t waste any time getting its offense rolling in its playoff opener.
Fifth-ranked Regina scored a touchdown less than two minutes into the game and raced to a 41-0 halftime lead cruising to a 48-20 win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (3-6) in a Class 1A opening-round contest on Friday in Iowa City.
Gentry Dumont passed for three touchdowns and ran for another and Jackson Naeve had a pair of touchdown as Regina improved to 8-1 on the season and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
Regina will learn its second-round opponent on Saturday at 10 a.m. when the Iowa High School Athletic Union releases postseason pairings for the next two rounds.
The Regals were clicking early on Friday.
Dumont threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Naeve on the Regal’s opening possession.
Naeve and freshman Savion Miller added rushing touchdowns in the opening quarter as Regina jumped to a 21-0 lead.
Dumont tossed scoring strikes of 66 yards to Miller and 9 yards to freshman Tate Wallace and added a touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter to give Regina a 41-0 halftime cushion.
Dumont completed 10-of-13 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns.
Wallace caught three passes for 25 yards and a touchdown to lead the Regals receivers.
Sophomore Edwin Gangba rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown while Miller rushed for 19 yards and a score and Naeve added a 14-yard touchdown run.
