Girls Cross Country Roundup: Wedemeyer Wins Individual Title to Help City High Return to State Meet

Ani Wedemeyer made an emphatic statement on Wednesday while helping City High return to the state cross country meet.
Wedemeyer won the individual title as ninth-ranked City High advanced to the state meet with a third-place team finish at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf.
Fourth-ranked Pleasant Valley won the team title with 40 points while defending 4A state champion and third-ranked Dubuque Hempstead was runner-up with 49 points.
City High was third with 69 points while No. 18 Cedar Rapids Prairie was fourth with 118 points.
Wedemeyer won the first state qualifying meet title of her career in a time of 18:39, finishing 13 seconds in front of runner-up Keelee Leitzen of Dubuque Hempstead.
The individual title for Wedemeyer highlighted a strong day for City High as the Little Hawks put three runners in the top 15.
Sophomore Abigail Burns was 10th in 19:43 and Nicole Peterson finished 13th in 19:58.
Claire Locher was 21st in 20:27 and freshman Grace Hamann finished 24th in a time of 20:51 for the Little Hawks.
