Liberty High qualified four runners for the state meet on Wednesday while finishing fourth as a team at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course in Ames.

Seniors Cori Mac and Bridget Canton and juniors Clara Welch and Mimi Marquardt secured spots at the state meet on Wednesday.

Mac finished eighth in a time of 18:38.28 while Welch was 20^th in 20:19.54.

Marquardt finished 22th in 20:24.99 and Canton was right behind at 23^rd in a time of 20:34.76.

Fifth-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes won the team title with 34 points while eighth-ranked Ankeny was runner-up with 50 points.

No. 17 Ames secured the final spot at the state meet finishing third with 57 points, 40 points in front of fourth place Liberty High.

Ames junior Claire Helmers won the individual title in a time of 17:44.98 finishing in front of Ankeny junior Drew Beason who was runner-up in 18:05.86.
