Following a win over previously third-ranked Regina on Friday West Branch has entered the second edition of the Iowa High School Athletic Association football rankings that were released on Monday afternoon.

The rankings for Class 2A, 1A, A and eight-player are determined throughout the 2023 regular season by official rankings committees for each class.

West Branch (4-2) makes its season debut at seventh in the 1A rankings, one spot ahead of Regina (5-1).

Grundy Center (6-0) and Underwood (5-1) remained in the top two spots in the 1A rankings followed this week by Sumner-Fredericksburg (5-1), MFL Mar Mac and Denver in the 1A top five.

The Ratings Percentage Index lists were released for the first time this season for the three largest classes on Monday.

West High (3-3) is No. 15 in the Class 5A RPI while City High (3-3) is No. 18 and Liberty High (2-4) is No. 25.

Clear Creek Amana (2-4) is No. 24 in the Class 4A RPI and Solon (5-1) is fourth in Class 3A.

Other top-ranked teams in the rankings of the season include Southeast Polk in 5A, ADM in 4A and Clear Lake in 3A.
