Girls Cross Country Roundup: Van Waning Leads West High to Fifth-place Finish at Rich Engel Classic

Kate Van Waning finished ninth overall to lift Class 4A No. 20 West High to a fifth-place team finish at the Rich Engel Classic on Thursday at Birdsall Park in Cedar Falls.
Van Waning finished ninth in a time of 19:52.1 to lead three West High runners that finished in the top 40 among team scorers as the Trojans finished with 170 points.
Class 4A third-ranked Dubuque Senior won the team title with 48 points, edging seventh-ranked Dubuque Hempstead by two points.
Host and No. 17-ranked Cedar Falls was third with 111 points followed by No. 11 Ames with 113.
Class 4A No. 19 Liberty High was sixth with 181 points.
Cindy Wang finished 28th in a time of 20:56.3 for West High while freshman Susanna Olson placed 38th in 21:33.2.
Kalli Titus was 44th in 21:45.8 and senior Gabby Moniza was 53rd in 22:04.7.
Liberty High was led by senior Cori Mac who placed 19th in a time of 20:31.1 and freshman Chelsea Vedepo who was 22nd in 20:40.1.
Juniors Mimi Marquardt and Bridget Canton finished 45th and 47th respectively for the Lightning.
