After starting the season a little later than most teams in the state the Liberty High boys cross country team made an immediate impact in its first competition.

Liberty High opened the season by winning a team title at the Corridor Cross Country Clash on Friday and made its season debut in the boys cross country rankings on Tuesday when the  Iowa Association of Track Coaches released its third rankings of the season.

The Lightning are No. 13 in the Class 4A rankings this week trailing No. 11 Pleasant Valley and No. 12 Dallas Center-Grimes just outside the 4A top-10.

Solon and Clear Creek Aman each dropped spots in the most recent 3A rankings but both remain in the top 10.

Clear Creek Amana dropped one spot to 10th while Solon dropped two spots to ninth in Class 3A.

Regina held its spot at No. 14 in the Class 1A rankings for the third consecutive week.

Top-ranked teams in the second rankings are Cedar Falls (4A), Pella (3A), and Des Moines Christian (2A) and ACGC (1A).
