Clear Creek Amana All-Stater Locklear Commits to Saginaw Valley State

One of the best post players in the state has found her future basketball home.
Clear Creek Amana two-time all-stater Ava Locklear announced her commitment to Division II Saginaw Valley State University over the weekend with a post on social media.
“I want to thank my parents for all of their support and sacrifices they’ve made to allow me to have this opportunity as well as my family, friends and teammates for supporting me the entire way,” Locklear wrote in her social media post. “Finally a huge thank you to Coach Pruett and Coach Rob for giving me this opportunity. With that being said I am super excited to announce that I am going to be continuing my academic and athletic career at Saginaw Valley State University.”
Over the past two seasons Locklear has established herself as one of the top post players in the state.
After earning third-team all-state honors two seasons ago as a sophomore Locklear had the best season of her career last winter as a junior.
The 5-foot-11 Locklear led Clear Creek Amana in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocked shots last season, helping the Clippers to an 18-5 record and a spot in the Class 4A state quarterfinals.
Locklear averaged a double-double as a junior while earning second-team all-state honors from both the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
The averaged 13.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2 blocked shots and 1.7 steals while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 65 percent from the free throw line while posting teams highs in free throw attempts and makes.
Locklear scored in double figures 18 times last season, had nine double doubles and four games with 20 or more points.
Saginaw Valley State University is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is located in University Center, Michigan.
The Cardinals went 16-11 last season including an 11-8 mark in the GLIAC.
