Defending State Runner-up Williamsburg Too Much for West Branch in Opener

In a meeting of teams that reached the UNI-Dome last season it was all defending state runner-up Williamsburg on Friday.
Last year’s Class 2A runner-up Williamsburg raced to a 42-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 42-14 win over 2022 1A semifinalist West Branch at Bob Murphy Stadium in Williamsburg.
Kellen Cockrell threw five touchdown passes to four different receivers and also rushed for a touchdown as Williamsburg snapped a two-game losing skid to West Branch.
The Raiders rolled up 405 yards of total offense and limited the Bears to 173 total yards and five first downs while stretching their regular season winning streak to 14.
Cooper Gates rushed for 67 yards and scored on second-half touchdown runs of 5 and 47 yards for West Branch.
Reese Trepanier had a team-high 10 tackles for the Bears and Keaton Gates had an interception for West Branch.
West Branch will host Dike-New Hartford (0-1) on Friday at the Little Rose Bowl.
