Back-to-back State Champ Regina Puts Three Players on IGCA All-State Team

Last week Regina claimed the state’s biggest prize for the second straight season winning its second consecutive Class 2A title.
On Wednesday the Regina were recognized individual for their string of team success.
Regina had three players named to the Class 2A all-state team released by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association on Wednesday and head coach Angela Kessler was honored as the 2A coach of the year after leading the Regals to a 30-8 record and the first back-to-back championships in program history.
Seniors Courtney Kessler and Ashley Webb were each named to the 2A first team while senior Dani Laughlin was a second team pick for the champion Regals.
Liberty High matched Regina with three players earning all-state honors in Class 5A while Solon and Clear Creek Amana each had two all-state picks.
West Branch and City High each had one player earn all-state honors from the IGCA.
Kessler and Webb highlight the area all-state picks after each earning all-tournament team honors at the 2A state tournament before landing on the IGCA 2A first team.
Webb posted a 19-6 record, 1.41 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in the circle for Regina while striking out 183 in 138 2/3 innings pitched.
The senior left-hander also hit .360 with 19 RBI on her way to first-team all-state honors.
A senior catcher, Kessler was a first-team all-state pick for the first time after earning second-team honors each of the past two seasons.
Kessler batted .551 and led Regina in doubles (17), extra-base hits (22), home runs (3), RBI (60) and slugging percentage (.805).
Laughlin was a second-team all-state pick after leading 2A and ranking fourth in the state with a .604 batting average.
The senior center fielder led Regina with 36 stolen bases, four triples and a .658 on-base percentage and was second on the team with 58 hits and 49 runs scored.
West Branch sophomore shortstop Lanie Meyer was a third-team all-state pick in 2A after earning honorable mention all-state honors last season.
Meyer led the Bears in batting average (.448), hits (43), runs (26), extra-base hits (22), doubles (15), home runs (6), RBI (36) on-base (.505) and slugging percentage (.812).
Liberty High had three players named to the 5A all-state team highlighted by junior shortstop Haley Schroeder who was a second team pick.
Schroeder hit .400 and led Liberty High in runs (55), extra-base hits (23), doubles (15), home runs (6) and walks (26) and drove in 26 runs.
Senior first baseman Haileigh Smith and junior second baseman Brynlee Slockett were both third-team picks in Class 5A.
Smith hit .415 with 15 doubles and 37 RBI and scored 26 runs for the Lightning while also posting a 5-3 record and 4.28 ERA in 52 1/3 innings pitched.
Slockett earned all-state honors after batting .395 with 18 extra-base hits including four home runs while driving in 31 runs and scoring 39 runs.
City High sophomore shortstop Lianna Hull was named to the 5A second team for the second straight season.
Hull led City High in batting average (.452), runs (33), hits (47), triples (3), stolen bases (17) and on-base percentage (.517) and also had a home run and drove in nine runs.
Clear Creek Amana had a pair or players earn all-state status as freshman Kyla Schulte and
Junior Reese Stockman were both named to the 4A third team.
Schulte hit .373 with eight doubles, eight home runs, 26 runs scored and 24 RBI and also went 9-8 with a 4.25 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 89 innings pitched.
Stockman batted .429 with eight doubles and 23 RBI and scored 18 runs for the Clippers while earning all-state honors for the second year in a row.
Solon senior shortstop Hilary Wilson was named to the Class 3A first team while sophomore catcher Addie Miller was a second-team pick for the Spartans.
A five-year starter, Wilson earned all-state honors for the fourth consecutive season and was a first-team pick for the second time.
Wilson hit .449 with 14 doubles, three home runs, 31 runs scored and 35 RBI as a senior.
Miller had her best season to date hitting .412 with 10 doubles, eight home runs, 33 RBI and 20 runs scored on her way to earning all-state honors for the first time.
