The 2023 Your Prep Sports Area Girls Soccer Team

The annual Your Prep Sports area girls soccer team honors some of the top players in the area for their performance during the season.
This year’s 12-member team features players from six area teams including seven repeat selections from the 2022 Your Prep Sports area squad.
The six edition of the Your Prep Sports area team is filled with all-conference and all-state players as well as college recruits and up and coming stars.
Regina senior Grace Gaarde is the captain of the Your Prep Sports area team for the second consecutive season.
Among the top goal scorers in the state, Gaarde led Class 1A and ranked second in the state with 45 goals this season while directing the Regals to a 14-6 record and a spot in a regional final.
2023 Your Prep Sports Area Girls Soccer Team
**Grace Gaarde
Senior, Regina
One of the most productive players in the history of the Regina program Gaarde put the finishing touches on a brilliant prep career with a stellar senior season.
Gaarde led Class 1A and ranked second in the state with 45 goals and also ranked second in 1A with 96 points on her way to earning second-team all-state honors from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
The senior forward added six assists while helping the Regals to a 14-6 record and a spot in the 1A regional title game.
Gaarde scored a goal in 16 of 18 matches she played in this season, had multiple goals in 13 matches and had 10 matches with three or more goals.
The 45 goals were a career-high for Gaarde who finishes her career with 103 goals and 15 assists in three seasons.
Claire Brown
Senior, City High
Among the most dynamic players in the area Brown capped an impressive prep career by leading City High in goals for the third consecutive season.
A first-team all-MVC Valley Division pick and repeat Your Prep Sports area selection Brown had a team-high 14 goals and added seven assists lead City High with 35 points.
The Western Illinois recruit scored 44 goals and had 19 assists in three varsity seasons scored at least 12 goals in each of her three years of high school competition.
Rilyn Breinholt
Sophomore, Liberty High
After a stellar freshman campaign a year ago Breinholt picked up where she left off leading Liberty High in assists for the second consecutive season on her way to earning a spot on the Your Prep Sports all area team for the second year in a row.
For the second straight season Breinholt ranked second in the team in goals and led Liberty High in assists posting 10 goals and 10 assists as a sophomore.
Breinholt earned first-team Mississippi Valley Conference all-divisional honors and was a second-team Class 2A all-state pick by the IHSSACA.
Morgan Link
Senior, Solon
One of the most productive players in program history Link capped a brilliant prep career with a strong senior season in which she led Solon in scoring for the third straight season.
Link had a team-high 19 goals as a senior, her third consecutive season with at least 19 goals, and closed her prep career with 67 goals in three seasons.
A Wartburg recruit, Link tied for the team lead with four assists as a senior while helping Solon to a 10-6 record and a spot in the Class 1A regional semifinals.
Ava Bell
Junior, City High
A repeat Your Prep Sports area selection Bell was at her best as a junior increasing her goal scoring production for the third consecutive season.
After scoring eight goals in her first two seasons Bell had a career-high eight goals as a junior helping City High to a 10-5 record and a spot in a Class 3A regional title game.
Bell earned first-team all-MVC Valley Division honors after rankings third on the team with five assists to go with her eight goals.
Maclayne Menzel
Junior, City High
Already a three-year varsity starter Menzel enjoyed a breakthrough season this spring while helping City High to a 10-5 record and a spot in the 3A regional title game.
Menzel tied with Bell for second on the team with eight goals and added three assists in 15 matches this season on her way to earning first-team all-MVC Valley Division honors.
Callie Stanley
Freshman, Liberty High
Like her teammate Breinholt a year ago Stanley burst onto the prep scene this season emerging as one of the top young players in the state.
Stanley had a team-high 18 goals and was second on the team with eight assists as a freshman helping Liberty High to a 9-9 record and a spot in the Class 2A regional title game.
The 18 goals are the most for a freshman in program history and were the fifth most in the state by a freshman this season.
Stanley earned first team all-MVC divisional honors after ranking in the top-20 in 2A in both goals and points (44).
Paz Martinez
Sophomore, West High
A two-year starter Martinez had her best season yet as a sophomore ranking fourth on the team in goals and second in assists.
Martinez earned first-team all-MVC Valley Division honors after posting four goals and three assists this season while helping West High to a 6-11 mark.
Aly Skala
Junior, West High
Already a three-year starter Skala has been a stalwart in the West High lineup since her freshman season making 41 career starts.
Skala had a career-high three goals this season on her way to being named to the MVC all-Valley Division first team.
The leadership of Skala helped West High to a 6-11 record this season.
Emma Potthoff
Sophomore, West High
Potthoff built off a strong debut campaign a year ago increasing her offensive production in her second season in the West High lineup.
After scoring six goals and adding five assists last season as a freshman Potthoff ranked second on the team with 10 goals this spring.
Potthoff also had a team-high six assists this season on her way to earning honorable mention all-MVC Valley Division honors.
Rose McAtee
Sophomore, Solon
A breakout star last season as a freshman McAtee continued to emerge as an offensive weapon this season for the Spartans.
After scoring 12 goals and adding two assists as a freshman in 2022, McAtee ranked second on the team with nine goals this spring.
McAtee helped Solon to a 10-6 record and a berth in the Class 1A regional semifinals.
Halle Bormann
Junior, Clear Creek Amana
A repeat Your Prep Sports all-area pick Bormann built on a strong sophomore season with a big-time junior campaign.
Borman posted a third consecutive season of at least seven goals and five assists, scoring seven goals and handing out a team-high eight assists to help Clear Creek Amana to a 5-11 record.
In three seasons Bormann has scored 24 goals and posted 22 assists.
