Class 3A eighth-ranked Solon split a WAMAC cross-divisional doubleheader with Benton Community on Monday in Van Horne winning the opener 8-5 and dropping the nightcap 6-5.

The Spartans move to 15-9 on the season with the split while Benton Community now sits at 18-11.

Solon never trailed in an 8-5 win in game one with Kassidy Lietz and Addie Miller leading the way offensively.

Lietz went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI while Miller was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI.

Mia Stahle had a hit and scored a run, Kendall Jensen doubled and Izzy Frees scored twice for the Spartans in the opener.

Maddyn Gates earned the win in the circle allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking four.

Benton Community used a Jessa Demoss grand slam to erase a 5-2 deficit in a 6-5 win in the nightcap.

Jensen took the loss for Solon allowing six runs, four earned, on seven hits while striking out three and walking one.

Hilary Wilson was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored for Solon while Lietz homered and drove in two runs.

McKenna Rogers and Izzy Frees each had a hit and scored a run and Jensen had a hit and drove in a run for Solon.
