Jack Tierney hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the opening to help Regina to a doubleheader split with Class 2A second-ranked Mid-Prairie on Monday in a River Valley Conference matchup in Iowa City.

The home run by Tierney lifted Regina to a 4-3 win in the opener and Mid-Prairie earned a split with a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

Regina moved to 10-11 on the season and 8-3 in RVC play while Mid-Prairie is now 13-6 on the year and leads the RVC South Division at 9-1.

The Regals overcame a three-run deficit to win the opener, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth before the game-winner by Tierney in the seventh.

Tierney led off the three-run Regina sixth with a single and Jack Clark had a double before Michael Martin had a two-run single that tied the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the seventh Tierney launched a two-out home run to left for the game winner.

Will Litton started and allowed two unearned runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking two in four innings.

Tate Lynch earned the win for Regina allowing one run on two hits while striking out two in three innings of relief.

Martin was 2-for-3 with two RBI for Regina and Tierney was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Clark doubled and scored a run and Danny Gavin and Lynch added hits.

Mid-Prairie scored five runs over the final three innings to earn a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

Connor Nicpon took the loss for Regina allowing six unearned runs on three hits while striking out five in 5 2/3 innings.

Drew Streb was 2-for-3 and drove in three RBI in game two while Tierney had a hit and scored a run and Gavin doubled and scored twice.
