Solon shot a 335 on the opening day of the Class 3A state golf meet at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames and is fifth in the 10-team field after 18 holes.

MOC-Floyd Valley fired a 319 on Monday to take a 10-shot lead over Knoxville while Gilbert is 11 shots back in third place and ADM is fourth with a 334.

Jack McCarty led the Spartans with a seven over part 79 and is tied for sixth place with five golfers including Clear Creek Amana senior Zach McCarty who also shot a 79 on Monday.

Isaiah Zoske and Mac McCarty each shot 84 for Solon while Brennan Heesch shot an 88 for the Spartans on Monday.

Washington junior Roman Roth is the day one leader after firing a one-over-par 73 and has a three-stroke cushion on Vinton-Shellsburg junior Carter Lamont who is alone in second place after 18 holes after an opening-round 76.
