Sarah Lehman
Regina graduate Sarah Lehman helped San Diego State win a regional title over the weekend as the Aztecs advanced to the NCAA Super Regional for the first time in program history.
Lehman tossed five scoreless innings across two games as third-seeded San Diego State outscored opponents 19-3 on its way to winning three straight games at the NCAA Los Angeles Regional.
A senior for the Aztecs, Lehman tossed a scoreless inning of relief in 7-0 win over second-seeded Liberty in the opener.
Lehman started and earned the win in the winner’s bracket championship game against Grand Canyon tossing four hitless innings, striking out six and walking two in a 6-0 Aztec win.
San Diego State (38-15) defeated Liberty High 6-3 in the final on Sunday and will travel to Utah for the Super Regional next on Friday and Saturday.
Marcus Morgan
Former West High standout and current University of Iowa sophomore pitcher Marcus Morgan posted a second consecutive shutout start on Thursday tossing four scoreless innings in a 15-3 win over Northwester.
Morgan allowed three hits and walked three while striking out five over four innings and has now thrown 11 consecutive scoreless innings.
In his last start Morgan threw six hitless innings striking out six in a 9-0 win over Michigan State.
On the season Morgan is 4-2 with a 4.14 ERA allowing 33 hits and striking out 62 in 54 1/3 innings.
Ashley Joens
Former City High and Iowa State standout Ashley Joens scored the first points of her professional career on Saturday in the season opener for the WNBA’s Dallas Wings.
Joens, who was the No. 19 pick in the WNBA draft this season following a collegiate career in which she left Iowa State as the program’s all-time leading scorer, made her only field goal attempt in a 85-78 win for Dallas over the Atlanta Dream.
