City High will open the baseball season on Monday as a ranked team.

The Little Hawks are ninth in the preseason Class 4A rankings released by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association on Monday.

City High was 32-9 and advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals last season, falling to West Des Moines Dowling.

Dowling opens the season atop the Class 4A rankings followed by Ankeny Centennial, Johnston, Cedar Rapids Prairie and Waukee Northwest.

Other top-ranked teams in the preseason rankings are Western Dubuque (3A), Van Meter (2A) and Remsen St. Mary’s (1A).
