Ford Washburn and Matt Schaeckenbach each won a pair of individual titles and City High secured 16 automatic entries to the state meet on Thursday while winning the team title at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at North Scott High School in Eldridge.

Washburn won the 1,600 and 3,200 and Schaeckenbach added titles in the high jump and 400 hurdles as City High won eight events and rolled up 194 team points.

Pleasant Valley was second with 143 followed by North Scott with 120 and Bettendorf with 101.

Washburn won the 1,600 in 4:19.62 and added a title in the 3,200 in 9:45.62 to pace the Little Hawks.

Schaeckenbach cleared 6-6 to win the high jump and took home the title in the 400 hurdles in a time of 54.78.

Senior Ammon Smith added a title in the 800 in 1:56.09 for City High while the defending 4A runner-up Little Hawks won three relay titles.

Ayman Noreldaim, Smith, Jeremiah Madlock and Truman Thompson won the 4×400 in 3:22.81 and Noreldaim, George Karr, Thompson and Washburn won the 4×800 in 8:04.35.

Noreldaim anchored the distance medley team that also featured Sam Rew, Ronnie Major and Thompson to a win in 3:32.1.

Schaeckenbach was runner-up in the 110 hurdles and Thompson was runner-up in the 800 for the Little Hawks.

Michael Etuma advanced to the state meet with a runner-up finish in the discus while Shamar Benton was runner-up in the long jump.

City High finished second in four relays to secure automatic spots at the state meet.

The 4×100 team of Deon Brown, Ronnie Major, Phillip Kaplan and Rew was second in 43.21 and the 4×200 team of Madlock, Brown, Rew and Major was second in 1:29.18.

The sprint medley squad of Kaplan, Rew, Connor Cross and Madlock was second in 1:34.29 and Schaeckenbach, Isaac Washpun, Dominic Roe and Austin Rindels were second in the shuttle hurdle relay in 59.84.
