Two-time defending Class 3A state runner-up Solon took its first step toward another postseason run on Wednesday.

Led by individual medalist Jack McCarty the Spartans had three players finish in the top four and cruised to the team title at the Class 3A sectional meet at Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg.

Solon shot a 292 to win the team title by 29 strokes over host Vinton-Shellsburg while West Delaware finished third with a 325.

All three of the top three teams earned a spot at the Class 3A district meet on Monday at 10 a.m. at Waverly Municipal Golf Course.

Clear Creek Amana was fourth with a 329 while senior Zach McCarty finished sixth with a 75 to qualify for the district meet as an individual.

Solon was impressive while advancing to the district meet.

Jack McCarty shot a one-under-par 69 to win the individual title by three strokes over teammate Brennan Heesch who shot a 72.

Jack McCarty got a big boost with an ace on the 158-yard, par-three fourth hole that was part of a one-under-par 34 for McCarty on the front nine.

Heesch shot a 36 on both the front and back nine to finish two a two-over 72 while Isaiah Zoske fired a one-under-par on the back nine and finished with an 83 to place fourth.

Mac McCarty placed eighth with a 78 for the Spartans.

Zach McCarty shot a 36 on the back nine to finish with a 75 while Alex Courtright shot an 82 and Hayden Crow shot an 86 for Clear Creek Amana.
