Girls Track and Field Roundup: West Branch Climbs Again at River Valley Conference Meet

Another year, another step up in the River Valley Conference meet standings for the West Branch girls track and field team.
After jumping from 10th to seventh at the RVC meet a year ago, West Branch climbed again on Thursday placing seventh at the 15-team meet at Tipton City Park.
West Branch got runner-up finishes from throwers Sadie Smith and Alyssa Pierce and senior sprint Iva Senio had a strong day as the Bears improved racked up 54 points, 10 more than its total from last year.
Mid-Prairie won the team title with 128 points followed by host Tipton with 81, Cascade with 75 Maquoketa with 74 and Monticello with 61.
Regina finished 12th with 29 points.
Sophomore Alyssa Pierce finished second in the shot put with a mark of 35-10 ¼ and senior Sadie Smith was second in the discus with a throw of 104-2.
Senio finished fourth in the 200 and third in the 100 and anchored a pair of West Branch relays to top-three finishes.
The West Branch foursome of Ava Finley, Avery Schultes, Addi Schultes and Senio finished runner-up in the 4×100 in 51.16.
The 4×200 team of Avery Schultes, JaLynn Falco, Addi Schultes and Senio) was third in1:50.33.
Regina was led by Sydney Wagner who finished third in the discus and sixth in the shot put.
Freshman Reese Naeve added a fourth-place finish in the 100 hurdles for the Regals.
