Solon opened the season by defeating Independence in a WAMAC Conference dual meet on Thursday at Three Elms Golf Course in Independence.

Lilly Houtakker led three Spartans to shoot in the 40s on Thursday firing a 45 to earn medalist honors as Solon finished with a 191.

Taylor Dee was the individual runner-up with a 46 while Rylie Greazel shot a 49.

Sydney Dee and Peyton Pentico each shot 51 for Solon.

Annie Johnson shot a 57 to lead Independence which finished with a 248.
