Boys Basketball Roundup: Solon Falls to Sixth-ranked Newton in Substate Title Game

Newton outscored Solon 24-13 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 60-46 win over the Spartans in the Class 3A, Substate 6 title game on Tuesday at Oskaloosa High School.
Brody Bauer had 20 points to lead three players in double figures as sixth-ranked Newton advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 2017.
Newton (17-6) will face seventh-ranked North Polk (19-5) in a Class 3A state quarterfinal on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Solon had a nine-game winning streak snapped with the loss and closes the season 18-6.
Cole Plowman had 16 points and eight rebounds and Jake Ingle added 11 points, six assists and two steals for Newton.
