Liberty High let an opportunity for its biggest win of the season slip through its hands on Tuesday in a 68-53 home loss to ninth-ranked Cedar Falls.

When the Lightning got another chance for a big-time win on Friday they didn’t let it get away.

Class 5A No. 11 Liberty High outscored 4A fifth-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier 12-7 in overtime to earn a 66-61 win over the Saints in North Liberty.

Liberty High improved to 10-6 on the season with the win while Cedar Rapids Xavier dropped to 11-6 on the season with its third consecutive loss all to Class 5A teams ranked in the top 11.

Jasmine Barney had 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Liberty High while Madeline Casey added 19 points and three rebounds.

Janessa Mosley had nine points, Avery Gaudet had eight points, six rebounds and two assists and Haley Schroeder had seven points and five boards for the Lightning

Libby Fandel had a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds for Xavier while Sydney Huber had 10 points and Lexi Turner had nine for the Saints.

Emma Arnold and Kyla Mason each had eight points for Cedar Rapids Xavier.
