Zeb Gnida
Solon graduate and current Loras College junior Zeb Gnida went 5-0 on Saturday on his way to winning the 174-pound title at the Cliff Keen-Mike Dunroe Invitational at Cornell College in Mount Vernon.
Gnida won a 17-4 major decision in his opener and a 16-1 tech fall in round two before posting a 5-3 decision over LJ Richardson of Coe and a 7-4 decision over Augsburg’s Carter Sorenson of Augsburg in the semifinals.
In the title match Gnida posted an 11-1 major decision over Cornell’s Jacob Sherzer.
Rachael Saunders
Former West High standout and current Creighton senior guard Rachael Saunders had a season-high five assists in a 75-56 win over Butler on Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Saunders also had four points, two steals, two blocks and two rebounds in the win helping the Bluejays improve to 12-5 on the season and 6-3 in Big East games.
On the season Saunders is averaging 6.1 points, 2.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Hunter Garvin
West High graduate and current Stanford freshman Hunter Garvin won an 11-9 decision over Lucas Revano to help No. 20 Stanford to a 16-15 dual win over Penn on Sunday.
Garvin scored his third takedown of the match in the third period to secure the win in his first dual action for the season for the Cardinal.
With the win Garvin improved his season record to 10-7 while helping Stanford improve its dual record to 3-3.
