Logan Wright and Cooper Gates each secured runner-up finishes to help West Branch to a fifth-place team finish at the Gary Curtis Invitational on Saturday at Highland High School.

Gates was runner-up at 152 pounds and Wright was runner-up at 220 pounds to highlight seven top-five finishes for West Branch as the Bears finished with 115.5 points.

Class 1A top-ranked Wilton won the team title with 230.5 points while third-ranked Alburnett was runner-up with 201.5 points followed by Washington with 124 and Muscatine with 116.5.

Regina finished seventh with 89 points.

Gates (18-2) went 3-1 on his way to the runner-up finish at 152 pounds falling to 1A third-ranked Carson Klostermann of Alburnett in the title match.

Wright went 2-1 on Saturday dropping a 7-2 decision to 3A eighth-ranked Evan Franke of Muscatine in the 220-pound championship match.

Logan Christoffel finished third for West Branch at 132 pounds while Auron Marsh was fourth at 138 pounds, Tate Frantz was fourth at 182 and Quintyn Rocha was fourth at 285 for the Bears.

Lincoln Edwards placed fifth at 113 pounds.

Regina got a runner-up finish from Ian Udell at 182 pounds to lead five wrestlers that placed in the top six.

Udell posted a pair of pins to reach the 182-pound title match where he fell to 1A second-ranked Kaden Shirk of Wilton.

Cash Hatfield was third at 126 pounds, Will Aitchison was third at 145 pounds and Christopher Waikel was third at 195 for Regina.

Romiz Monaco was sixth at 152 pounds for the Regals.
