Wrestling Roundup: City High Crowns Three Champions in Fifth-place Finish at Jack Mendenhall Invitational

City High crowned three individual champions and added a runner-up finish on its way to a fifth-place team finish at the Jack Mendenhall Invitational on Saturday at Ames High School.
Ben Kueter, Gabe Arnold and Cale Seaton all won individual titles for the Little Hawks and Kael Kurtz and Jake Mitchell finished runner-up as 3A fifth-ranked City High finished with 142.5 points.
Class 3A seventh-ranked Ankeny won the team title with 211.5 points, fourth-ranked Fort Dodge was fourth with 153 points followed by Cedar Rapids Prairie with 147 and West Des Moines Valley with 146.5.
Top-ranked Kueter was dominant on his way to the 220-pound title.
Kueter (18-0) went 3-0 with three pins, pinning 2A fifth-ranked Henry Christensen of Ballard in 2:00 in semifinals and 3A ninth-ranked Will Hinrichs of Ankeny Centennial in 32 seconds in the final.
Arnold was equally impressive on his way to the 182-pound title.
Top-ranked Arnold (20-0) posted a pair of tech falls including a 25-9 win over 3A No. 7 Xander Kenworthy of Ankeny Centennial in the semifinals before earning a 14-7 decision over 2A No. 3 Brody Simpson of Ballard Jr in final.
Second-ranked Seaston (22-1) went 4-0 with a tech fall, a major decision and a pin on his way to the 126-pound title.
Seaton earned a 4-3 decision over fourth-ranked Ames sophomore Jabari Hinson in the championship match.
Kurtz finished runner-up at 132 pounds dropping a 6-2 decision to Cal Price of Papillion-La Vista (Nebraska) in the championship.
Mitchell was runner-up at 138 pounds with a loss to fourth-ranked Ben Hansen of Ankeny in the championship match.
Kendall Kurtz finished fifth at 106 pounds and Zach Fern was seventh at 145 pounds for City High.
