Class 3A top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier used a strong third quarter to erase a one-point halftime deficit in a 59-50 win over Liberty High in a meeting of Mississippi Valley Conference foes on Tuesday in Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Rapids Xavier improved to 8-0 with the while Liberty High dropped to 3-3 on the season.
Da’Shon Fisher had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Liberty High while Trey Hughes had 18 points and four rebounds for the Lightning.
Jailyn Buchanan added seven points and Shea Sanders had six rebounds and six assists for Liberty High.
Aidan Yamilkoski had a game-high 21 points to lead three Cedar Rapids Xavier players in double figures.
Joe Bean added 13 points and five assists and Josef Lemker had 11 points for the Saints.
