Solon climbed three spots to ninth in the most recent Class 3A girls basketball rankings released on Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Spartans are off to a 2-0 start and moved into the 3A top-10 after opening the season at No. 12. Solon is between a pair of WAMAC opponents in in the 3A rankings one spot behind eighth-ranked Vinton-Shellsburg and in front of No. 10 Mount Vernon.

Solon is one of five ranked area teams joining West High, Liberty High, Clear Creek Amana and Regina in the second rankings of the season.

West High (1-0) remained seventh in the 5A rankings while Liberty High (1-2) held its spot at No. 13 in 5A.

Clear Creek Amana (1-1) remained No. 8 in 4A and Regina (2-0) held at eighth in the 2A rankings.

Top-ranked teams this wee are Waterloo West (5A), Cedar Rapids Xavier (4A), Estherville-Lincoln Central (3A), Dike-New Hartford (2A) and Algona Garrigan.
