One of the top pass catchers in the state has found a future home.
West High senior wide receiver Christian Janis announced his commitment to Minnesota State on Friday with a post on social media.
“After talking with my parents and a lot of thinking, I’ve decided to verbally commit to Minnesota State University,” Janis wrote on Twitter. “Thankful to all the coaches who helped me along the way. Bless to have the opportunity to do what I love.”
After sustaining a season-ending injury in the season opener of his junior season Janis emerged as one of the most productive pass catchers in the state as a senior.
Janis ranked in the top 10 in Class 5A in both receiving yards and touchdown catches in a breakthrough senior season.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Janis led the Trojans with 36 catches for 739 yards and 12 touchdowns.
His 739 receiving yards ranked seventh in 5A and his 12 receiving touchdowns were third in 5A.
A three-sport standout that also excels in track and swimming, Janis completed 3-of-4 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown, recovered a fumble and returned an interception for a touchdown.
Janis also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and averaged 12.9 yards per kick off return.
