Six Your Prep Sports area girls basketball teams will start the season as ranked teams.

West High, Liberty High, Clear Creek Amana, Solon, West Branch and Regina all appeared in the preseason girls basketball rankings released on Friday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

West High (19-4) is the highest ranked of the area teams in the preseason rankings coming in at seventh in the Class 5A rankings while Liberty High (12-11) is No. 13 in the 5A rankings.

Clear Creek Amana (16-7) opens the season at eighth in the Class 4A rankings while Solon (15-8) opens the season at No. 13 in Class 3A.

Regina (20-5) is eighth in the Class 2A rankings and West Branch (15-8) comes in at No. 14 in 2A.

Top-ranked teams to open the season are Waterloo West in 5A, Sioux City Heelan in 4A, Estherville Lincoln Central in 3A, Dike-New Hartford in 2A and Algona Garrigan in Class 1A.
