Liberty High returned to the top spot in the most recent Class 5A volleyball rankings released on Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Lightning were second last week but jumped to the top spot replacing Pleasant Valley as the number one ranked team.

Liberty High (18-7) has won five of its last six games, a stretch that includes wins over sixth-ranked Cedar Falls, 3A third-ranked Mount Vernon and previously top-ranked Pleasant Valley.

Clear Creek Amana (19-8) dropped six spots to No. 12 in the Class 4A rankings and Solon (19-9) slipped one spot to ninth in the Class 3A rankings.

Other top-ranked teams this week are Cedar Rapids Xavier (4A), Des Moines Christian (3A), Dike-New Hartford (2A) and Springville (1A).
