A week after snapping a two-game losing skid Solon started a streak in the other direction on Friday.

Solon rode a powerful running game and a dominant defense effort to a 36-0 win over West Burlington on Friday for its second consecutive win in the Class 3A, District 5 opener for both teams in West Burlington.

Brett White rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns and senior quarterback Blake Timmons added 72 rushing yards and three scores as Solon rushed for a season-high 282 yards.

The Spartans improved to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in district play with its second shutout of the year while West Burlington dropped to 1-4 and 0-1 in district games.

Solon limited West Burlington to 62 total yards and three first downs and recorded a safety in the win.

Timmons scored on first-half touchdown runs of 5, 5 and 3 yards and White had a 1 yard touchdown run as the Spartans built a 29-0 halftime lead.

That was more than enough for the Spartan defense which limited the Falcons to 39 rushing yards on 24 attempts.

White had 3.5 tackles and an interception to lead the Solon defensive effort while Aidan Doyle and Adam Smith each had a sack.

Brayden Moore had four tackles for Solon.

Mac McCarty rushed for 37 yards, Moore had 22 yards on the ground and Milo Ashbacker added 22 for the Spartans who averaged better than six yards per rushing attempt.

Timmons also passed for 28 yards with Ryan Rasmussen catching two passes for 13 yards.
