SOLON – As a three-year starter Blake Timmons has been one of the most productive quarterbacks in the state over the past several seasons.
The senior signal caller has accounted for nearly 5,000 yards of total offense and 58 touchdowns during his prep career.
Timmons has had bigger statistical games than what he put up on Friday night against Davenport Assumption but the Solon senior may not have had a more efficient outing than his effort against the Knights.
Timmons completed 9-of-12 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 91 yards and a score as Solon snapped a two-game losing skid with a 35-10 win over Davenport Assumption (1-3) at Spartan Stadium in Solon.
“In these games you just have to go out and play football,” Timmons said. “That’s really all it comes down to.”
Timmons looked like a three-year senior starter on Friday helping Solon accumulate a season-high 377 yards of total offense while averaging a season-best 6.9 yards per play.
He led scoring drives of 12 plays and 13 plays that lasted 5:03 and 7:08.
The 12-play, 71-yard march came on the opening possession of the game and ended with a 1-yard Timmons touchdown run that gave Solon a lead it would never give up.
“It’s huge it got the momentum in our favor, we knew they would come in jacked up after we beat them twice last year,” Timmons said. “We wanted the ball and we knew we were going to go down and score.”
Timmons also directed a 4-play, 64-yarder before the half that took just 30 seconds and ended with a 17-yard touchdown toss to Oaken Foster that answered the lone Davenport Assumption touchdown of the game and gave the Spartans a 21-7 halftime lead.
Timmons was 6-of-6 on third down passes for 66 yards with four going for first downs as Solon finish 6-of-10 on third down on Friday.
Solon had a season-low three penalties on Friday, two coming on the final offensive drive with Timmons on the bench.
“As coaches the last two weeks the focus has really been on improvement and growth,” Solon coach Lucas Stanton said. “I think we were really too focused on results and outcomes and we had a young football team and to their credit they took the coach the last two weeks because it was hard. We challenged them and all the credit to them because they took it.”
