A week after making its season debut in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union volleyball rankings the Spartans were among the biggest risers when the latest rankings were released on Thursday.

Solon (10-3) jumped five spots to No. 9 in the Class 3A rankings on Thursday after debuting at No. 14 a week ago.

The Spartans big jump came after posting wins over ranked opponents Johnston and Waverly-Shell Rock last week.

Liberty High (10-5) held its spot at fourth in the Class 5A rankings trailing top-ranked Pleasant Valley, Ankeny and Cedar Falls.

Clear Creek Amana (13-3) jumped four spots to ninth in the Class 4A rankings.

The Clippers have won 13 of 14 matches following an 0-2 start to the season.

Other top-ranked teams this week include Cedar Rapids Xavier (4A), Des Moines Christian (3A), Dike-New Hartford (2A) and North Tama (1A).
