After opening the season with a comfortable win Clear Creek Amana was back to its nerve wracking finishes it became so accustomed to a year ago on Friday.

Independence scored the game-winning touchdown on a 51-yard touchdown heave with four seconds left to edge Clear Creek Amana 13-7 in a non-district contest in Independence.

Mitchell Johnson’s last second Hail Mary found the hands of Josh Beatty in the end zone as Independence improved to 2-1 on the season.

Clear Creek Amana dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

Independence led 7-0 at the half after Trey Weber scored on a 5-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter.

Clear Creek Amana pulled even on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Schmidt to Brody Clubb in the third quarter.

Schmidt rushed for 130 yards and passed for 29 yards and the score to lead the Clippers.

Sam Pettinger added 47 yards on the ground for Clear Creek Amana.

Johnson passed for 86 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 42 yards to lead Independence.
