City High opened the season in impressive fashion on Tuesday at the Hillcrest Academy Early Bird in Kalona.

Class 4A No. 14 City High had the top seven finishers and won the team title with a perfect score of 15 points at the season-opening meet.

Ani Wedemeyer won the individual title in a time of 20:58.27 finishing in front of her older sister Iris Wedemeyer who was runner-up in 21:25.

Nina Kuhlman was third in 22:07.08 while Nina Peterson was fourth in a time of 22:15.87.

Erin Anderson placed fifth in 22:20.2 followed by Nicole Peterson in 22:35.02 and Sophia Romero in 23:54.09.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson finished second in the team standings with 50 points while Winfield-Mount Union was third with 82.

Lone Tree, Wapello, English Valleys, Highland, WACO and Hillcrest Academy also competed on Tuesday but did not field full teams.
