Solon, Liberty High and West Branch all appeared in the first Associated Press football poll of the season released on Monday.

Solon (1-0) is atop the Class 3A rankings after opening the season with a 42-0 win at West Liberty.

The Spartans were 11-1 last season and advanced to the Class 3A semifinals.

Solon leads Harlan, Humboldt, ADM and Nevada in the first class 3A poll of the season.

Liberty High (1-0) is seventh in the first Class 4A poll after defeating City High 36-19 in the opener last Friday. Clear Creek Amana (1-0) is the top team receiving votes in the 4A poll following a 26-0 win over Marion last week.

West Branch (1-0) is sixth in the initial Class 1A poll of the season. West Sioux is atop the 1A rankings followed by Van Meter, Dike-New Hartford, Dyersville Beckman and Pella Christian.

City High is among the teams receiving votes in the Class 5A rankings and Regina is receiving votes in the 1A poll.

Other top-ranked teams include Southeast Polk (5A), Council Bluffs Lewis Central (4A), OABCIG (2A), West Hancock (1A) and Remsen St. Mary’s (8-player).
