One of the top all-around players in the state has settled on a future home.
Liberty High senior point guard Jasmine Barney announced her verbal commitment to Minnesota State with a post on social media Sunday.
“I’m excited to announce I’ll be continuing my academic and athletic dreams at MSU,” Barney wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to God, my family, coaches, and friends for their support.”
In her first season at Liberty High last winter Barney emerged as one of the most productive players in the state.
Barney was one of only three players in the state and the lone player in Class 5A to average at least 18 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
The 5-foot-8 Barney led the Lightning with 18.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game as a junior.
Behind Barney Liberty High went 12-11 last season while setting program records for total wins and conference wins and winning the first postseason game in program history.
Barney scored in double figures in 21 of 23 games and had 20 or more points 13 times while earning Class 5A first team all-state honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Minnesota State is a member of the Northern Sun Conference and went 21-7 last season.
