Emma Nibaur, Courtney Kessler and their Regina teammates got the big prize last week when they claimed the Class 2A state title with a 6-4 win over Wilton last week at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.

On Thursday, Nibaur and Kessler continued to rake in the rewards for their efforts this season.

Nibaur and Kessler each earned Class 2A all-state honors and Regina head coach Angela Kessler was named 2A coach of the year when the Iowa Girls Coaches Association released its postseason honors on Thursday.

Kessler and Nibaur each earned all-state honors for the second consecutive season after playing center roles in directing the Regals to the fourth state title in program history and first since 2017.

Nibaur was named to the Class 2A first team while Kessler was a second-team selection.

A third-team all-state pick a year ago, Nibaur moved up to first team this season after excelling in the circle and at the plate.

The senior right-hander went 15-7 with a 2.48 ERA and struck out 122 in 135 2/3 innings and also hit .357 with eight doubles, 16 RBI and 12 runs.

Kessler earned second-team all-state honors for the second year in a row after leading Regina with a .412 batting average, 25 runs and 22 RBI.

The junior catcher also had a team-high .490 on-base percentage and led the Regals with a .565 slugging percentage.

West Branch freshman Lanie Meyer earned honorable mention all-state status in Class 2A.

Meyer batted .417 with five home runs, 17 extra-base hits, 17 RBI and a .792 slugging percentage this season and also led the Bears with 17 runs, 12 doubles and 11 walks.
